Wallace Prather - Atlanta Celtics - Atlanta Select

Wallace Prather

This weekend teams from all over the nation will be in Atlanta, Georgia for the Wallace Prather Memorial tournament. The tournament, that began in 2006, pays homage to a pillar of youth basketball. One can say, if there was not Wallace Prather, there would be no Atlanta Celtics. We can also say, if there was no Wallace Prather, there would not be Atlanta Select. 

Coach Prather brought Coach Tony Hill and Coach George Zeigler (the founders of Atlanta Select) into the fold of youth basketball at the AAU level. His knowledge of the game, his dedication to promote youth and his eye for talent is profound. He touched so many and we must always remember. Atlanta Select has had teams participating in the Memorial tournament each year and plan to continue.

Pictured below is Coach Prather and Kenny Zeigler (son of Coach Z) at a local banquet. Coach Prather recruited Kenny at the age of 11 to play AAU. The rest is history.

Coaches Hill, Hill and Harris are to be commended for leading the 

Mighty Ninth Grade SILVER Team to another championship.

They are on a roll. Two weeks in a row - Champs.

Bernard Woods was given the championship trophy as the player 

who played a key role during the tournament, 

a tradition that Coach Tony Hill established years ago to recognize a key player.

Coaches Ferrell and for the second week in a row has guided the 

Mighty 9th Grade RED to the trophy round.  

Two trophies earned playing in their third tournament, 

two out of three is not bad.

The Mighty Eleventh Grade PRIME Team

Coaches Hall and Brown have directed the Mighty 11th Grade PRIME team in Showcase and Exposure tournaments.

After playing in mostly these types of tournament they captured a trophy in the 

Prime Time Sports tournament on May 4, 2014.

It's no fooling, The PRIME Team is Prime Time.

The team earned their third trophy for the season in the North Cobb Playmakers tournament. The team will participate in the AAU District/State on May 2- 4.

The Mighty Atlanta Select Ninth Grade RED Team with Head Coach Ferrell  

Runner-up in the Tournament R Us tournament and earning their second trophy of the season.

The team was undefeated in pool play, lost only to their brother team (Ninth Grade SILVER) in the championship game.

Brothers vs. Brothers.

In this tournament if one Select team did not beat you the other one did.

The Mighty Atlanta Select Ninth Grade SILVER and RED Teams together.

The Mighty Atlanta Select Fifth Grade RED Team with Head Coach Lawson.

The team played in two different tournaments, Tournament R Us and D1Spects.

They lost to their brother team in the semifinals at Tournament and then won the championship at D1Spects. What a weekend earning their third trophy of the season.

After narrowly defeating their brothers in the semifinals the Mighty Atlanta Select Fifth Grade PRIME team (below) finished as Runner-up in the Fifth Grade Division at Tournament - R Us.

The team has earned three trophies for the season.

Earning their second trophy for the season were the student athletes of the Mighty Atlanta Select Third Grade SILVER team under the leadership of Coach Harris.

These shard and well discipline young men played their hearts out and added to the Atlanta Select Trophy Count.

Twenty Two Select teams were in action last weekend with 10 adding to the Trophy Count.  The Trophy Count goal for the Select Nation this year is 100 by September 1, 2014. 

As of last weekend the Nation has added 49, close to 50% of our goal.
